The U. S. Food and Drug Administration has issued a warning to men taking Viagra for erectile dysfunction (ED). The drug, Pfizer’s popular erectile dysfunction drug, is not approved for use in women.
“The FDA has not approved Viagra for use in women or children,” the agency said in a statement. “Viagra is not approved for use in women or children for the treatment of erectile dysfunction.”
The agency also said the agency will not approve Viagra for use in men under 18, although it’s not clear whether men under 18 can be considered women.
Pfizer, the makers of Viagra, said in a statement the drug has been linked to more than $5 billion in pharmaceutical sales in the United States. It’s unclear how much the company has done to prevent a serious adverse reaction to the drug in some cases. The FDA is not required to take action against Pfizer, the agency said.
Viagra is the brand name of the drug that’s sold in the U. and is used to treat impotence.
In May, the Food and Drug Administration announced it had issued a warning letter to doctors and hospitals to advise them not to prescribe Viagra for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in women. The letter was based on a letter the FDA received from a representative of an organization called the American Medical Association. It was published by The New England Journal of Medicine.

Viagra is available in both tablet and oral form, and a patient can get a prescription from a pharmacist or physician if they need it. It is also available in a liquid form, the letter said.
Pfizer and its U. subsidiary, CVS Health, are developing a product called “Caverject,” which will be available in the U. in 2020.
